PW2 Testifies in ‘dangerous’ driving case

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, July 12, 2012

One Modou Touray on Tuesday, 10th July, 2012 testified before Magistrate Landing Sanneh at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court as the second prosecution witness in a ‘dangerous’ driving case involving one Ousainou Jammeh, who is alleged to have dangerously driven a motor vehicle causing accident, contrary to the laws of The Gambia; a charge to which the accused person pleaded not guilty.

In his testimony, PW 2 told the court that he could remember the accused person and the day of the incident. He said on the said day, he was driving from the Brufut Turntable towards Senegambia, and as he reached Senegambia, the president of the republic’s vehicle was coming and the police told him to leave the road. PW2 said he left the road and that after the president’s vehicle passed, another car was coming behind. While he remained seated inside his car he heard a noise of a car hitting his vehicle.

When the witness is cross-examined by the prosecution, as to what caused the accident, he said the victim came behind his vehicle and knocked his car, a 190 van, with registration, BJL 5296, and damaged it. He further said the police later took him to Sukuta Health Centre where he received treatment. He said he also reported the matter to Brufut Police Station wherehis statement was also taken. PW 2 identified the accused person as from the State Guards and the driver of the vehicle that knocked his car.

The case was adjourned to 17th July 2012.
