Qcell hosts Iftar in Banjulinding

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, September 15, 2009
As part of its efforts to make communication accessible to every Gambian and to also seek prayers from the Muslim community in The Gambia, Qcell, the country's newest GSM operator, last Saturday hosted an Iftar at the Banjulinding Central Mosque in Kombo North.

During the Iftar, Qcell distributed one hundred sim cards and T-shirts as well as Iftar meals to one hundred people within the community of Banjulinding. Speaking at the occasion, Tombong Saidy, one of the coordinators of the Iftar, highlighted Qcell's resolve in assisting the Gambian communities. He expounded that Qcell intends to conduct Iftar in 25 mosques within the Greater Banjul Area. Saidy added that Qcell is a Gambian owned company and  that they will try all efforts to support the people of the country. "Qcell will not only make communication accessible, but will also create job opportunities for many young Gambians,"  he remarked.

For his part, the Imam of Banjulinding central mosque, Alhaji Yaya Bah, expressed delight at Qcell's bold initiative, describing it as humanitarian gesture. He also reiterated that Qcell is a Gambian owned GSM company and that it has come to render assistance to humanity. The Banjulinding Imam noted that the Iftar was not just about eating, but also to seek blessing from Allah. He finally gave assurance that the community will rally behind Qcell and thanked them for the support they rendered to humanity.

For his part, Alieu Jah, a cousin to Muhammed Jah, who is also one of the coordinators of Qcell's Iftar, said that the initiative is all about seeking blessing from Allah through Muslims. He added that supplication is a weapon through which one can gain prosperity.
