Ramadan meat sale begins in Banjul

Africa » Gambia
Friday, July 27, 2012

The APRC Green Youths in Banjul through Kanilai Family Farms Thursday began selling meat at the Banjul City Council (BCC) grounds. The sale will enable the general public buy meat at a lower price.

Speaking to the Daily Observer at the BCC grounds, Aji Bintou Colley, Banjul divisional coordinator of the Green Youths, said the meat sale will continue until the end of the Ramadan, adding that it came about courtesy of President Jammeh. She explained that apart from meat, sugar and palm oil would also be sold, at affordable prices.  Aja Colley finally thanked President Jammeh for the assistance he is providing to Muslims during the Holy month of Ramadan.

Aji Yama Faal-Tambedou, a buyer, said the president is supporting people who cannot afford the market price. One Buba Sanneh, on his part, said the scale of the meat sale by Kanilai Family Farms cannot be compared to any other market.

Kodou Ndow, also a buyer, noted that Ramadan is a month of blessings in which the poor needs to be supported, which is exactly what the president is doing. She called on the business community to emulate President Jammeh and reduce the prices of basic commodities during this holy month.

Other speakers like Alpha Bah, Dawda Njie , Sainabou Joof, Binta Jarjue and Oumie Jeng expressed gratitude to the Gambian leader and prayed that Allah rewards him.
