Ramadan mubarak, Mr President

Africa » Gambia
Monday, September 07, 2009
Editor,

Please allow me space to congratulate the president, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh on his recent move to free the six convicted journalists.

I was full of joy when I heard the news that the journalists have been pardoned.  This indeed shows that you are a leader who has equal love for the people. Your gesture has come at a much better time. A time when Muslims are in the holy month of Ramadan in which we are expected to forgive one another other.

However, I would like to take this opportunity to also remind the journalists to do their job profetionally and carry out their duties  responsibly. We should have great respect for the personality of the president and his office.  The president is registering great success in the development this country; if the journalists cannot recognise this, they should not tarnish the image of the country.  Once again, I wish to say Ramadan mubarak to the president for his kind gesture.
