Re - A suggestion for KMCThursday, June 25, 2009 Editor, Please allow me space in your newspaper to say congratulations to KMC for such a bold initiative in creating a housing development scheme. I am quick to say that contrary to a contributor's suggestion, I do not envisage KMC getting involved in the residential renting business and I believe common sense dictates that that should be left in the hands of the private sector. However, my vision for this housing development scheme is to ensure the inclusion of recreational facilities amongst others like swimming pools, tennis courts, volleyball pitch and (garages so home owners do not park in the streets). The KMC must ensure that dwellers conform to uniform standards to prevent defacing the community property values. Regular trash pickup and landscaping of the common areas are also vital components that require continuous funding, and KMC must come up with an effective scheme that will ensure that the home owners eventually absorb some of those costs. Such transition will not only lift some of the burden on KMC's shoulders but will help instill a sense of communal responsibility and pride among the home owners. KMC must open the opportunity for Gambians abroad that can meet the requirements to invest in acquiring a home in Gambia. The KMC must prepare highly trained and competent staff with great communication skills to liaise with the interested Gambians in the Diasporas by email and telephone. A rapid, highly professional and coherent response team will go a long way in ensuring that this magnificent project by our able KMC takes off with flying colors. latjorr@yahoo.com Author: By Sulayman Samba Jobe, A Gambian in the diaspora | Media Actions |
