Re: Prosecutor calls for tough stance on drivers.

Editor,

Please allow me space in your paper to comment on the above statement which was culled from your 27th May 2009 issue. The prosecuting officer could not be more right. I recently visited home and during a week's stay I was dismayed at the behavior of some of the drivers on the roads, especially at night. Within the space of a week I witnessed two fatal accidents; one at the Shell Pipeline Junction and the other one at the Senegambia Junction, and I believe those could have been avoided.

The authorities concerned must redouble their efforts in curbing the activities of these careless and reckless drivers. This can possibly be done by arming the police with breathalyzers to enable them stop drivers and check if they are above the alcohol consumption limit. The authorities must come hard on these drivers because they are endangering the lives of other road users too. Regards.
