Real's Jawara in Cape Town trialsMonday, March 08, 2010 Ajax Cape Town have announced the arrival of Gambia and Real de Banjul's versatile defender, Saikou Jawara, for a try out, as the South Africa premier soccer league club began to throw their net wide across Africa in a bid to reinforce their squad for next season.
Due to persistent injuries to the team's influential left back, Brent Evans, this season, the Urban Warriors have turned to Gambia for a replacement and Observer Sports understands that they have invited the Scorpions left-back, Jawara for trials. The Gambian arrived at Cape Town on the heels of Nigerian striker Hillary Chukwe who was also given try out by the club. However, the Nigerian has since returned home after failing to clinch a deal with the Urban Warriors. Ajax's chief executive officer, Mr George Comitis, has confirmed presence of the Jawara who was the vice-captain of Gambia premier league giants Real De Banjul, in their camp but adds that they have still to make a decision on whether to sign him. "Jawara comes with a high reputation of having played for the Gambian national Under-20 team and has few caps for the senior national team. "Hillary also proved to be good player but we have players with almost same quality in the club at the moment." Author: Nanama Keita | Media Actions See Also |
