REGIONAL WRESTLING SELECTION UNDERWAY

The District and Regional Competition which was organised by the Governors Office and the Regional Sport Committee under the coordination of the National Sports Council has completed the selection of their wrestlers in some of the districts.

North Bank Region had completed its selection of its wrestlers likewise Lower River Region. Banjul City Council and Upper River Region also completed.KMC is yet to complete its selection, but promised to do so latest 4th of next month.

Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy, the Development Officer at the National Sports Council in an interview this week said Western Region will hold its selection in Kanilai on 28th April, but CRR which has an organisation problem is yet to come up with a date for its selection.

He urged the non-registered associations to come over and fulfill their registrations before coming to the AGM, adding that all governors should send their representatives in the wrestling competition and also register with the National Sports Council. He further appealed to all clubs or associations that are interested in the competition to send their representatives and get registered before the date of the AGM.

Mendy also revealed that the Wrestling Association will hold its annual congress on Saturday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau. He urged all clubs and regional representatives to attend the annual general meeting, because the constitution will be reviewed and adopted by their constituency for the congress.

The selection of the new executive will be held on 5 May 2012. Titao Mendy added that the NSC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have embarked on revitalising wrestling which is the number one sport in the Gambia.
