Monday, June 14, 2010
The Ministry of Works, Construction and infrastructure has signed a contract with TETRAX Ltd and GAI Enterprise for the construction of major roads and drainage systems in Churchill's Town, Tallinding Kunjang and Abuko.

According to a release issued by the ministry and signed by Noah Touray, the construction of these roads is in fulfilment of a promise made by President Jammeh to residents during his tour of the area a few months ago.

The release reads:
The general public, especially people living in Churchill's Town, Tallinding Kujang and Abuko are hereby informed that the Ministry of Works, Construction, and Infrastructure has signed contract with TETRAX Ltd and GAI ENTERPRISE for the construction of the following roads and drains and works are to commence immediately.

Churchill's Town drainage to include reinforced concrete Irish crossings across Serekunda Mosque Road. This is intended to address flooding during the rainy season at the Churchill's Town junction around the Galp filling station. Work will start along Mosque road to connect to the Westfield-Brikama road drainage system via series of perpendicular reinforced concrete drains:

Churchill's Town to Abuko Earth Station Road (reinforced concrete pavements and side walks) starting from Churchill's Town Galp Filling station junction through Tallingding Kunjang, FajiKunda, to Abuko Earth Station.Tallingding Kunjang Road (reinforced concrete roads, footpaths, drains and Irish crossings) starting from Churchill's Town Galp Filling Station junction through Tallingding Kunjang market, Police Station, to the swamps:

Buffer Zone Road (reinforced concrete roads, footpaths, drains and Irish crossings) starting from Buffer zone Total filling station junction to connect to the existing Buffer Zone concrete road. The construction of these roads is a fulfillment of a promise His Excellency the President of the Republic, Sheikh Professor. Alh Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh made to residents during his tour of the area a few months ago. The implementation of these projects is another demonstration of his Excellency's continuous commitment to the socio-economic advancement of Gambians by providing them good public infrastructure, especially roads.

If completed, the roads and drains will facilitate movement of people and vehicles in these areas, especially during the rainy season. It will also decongest the West Field-Brikama highway during peak periods in vehicular movement. May the Almighty Allah guide us through the successful completion of these projects and enable His Excellency the President of the Republic, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh, fulfil his wish for the development of The Gambia.
