Road rehabilitation at Farato Bojang KundaWednesday, June 20, 2012 The Village
Development Committee of Farato Bojang Kunda, Sunday embarked on a massive road
rehabilitation. The road construction started from the main highway down to the
village. Speaking to the Daily Observer, the chairman of the Farato Village Development Committee (VDC) Sheikh Tijan Jobe expressed delight at the initiative. He also thanked the Daily Observer for always answering to their call. Jobe revealed that the VDC was formed and inaugurated in July 2011, with a five-year strategic plan. Among the VDC’s five-year strategic plan, he said are the road construction, provision of electricity, pipe-borne water, construction of a market and a health centre, among others. He added that currently the VDC is building a mosque in the village. Jobe revealed that the Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation donated D20, 000; the Gambia Ports Authority gave them D10, 000 and SDA school donated D3, 000, all in support of the road construction. He then appealed to the Government, NGOs and individuals to come to their aid. For his
part, Lamin Conteh said that the road construction is meant to complement
President Jammeh’s development efforts for the country. He added that the
importance of the road under construction cannot be overemphasised, while
commending his people for coming up with this good initiative. The alkalo of Farato Bojang Kunda, Modou Bojang, commended his people for their efforts in the development of the village. He said that the VDC is not only helping to develop the village but also fosters unity among the villagers. He commended President Jammeh for his tireless efforts in helping the people of The Gambia and used the opportunity to seek for help from the president to help his VDC accomplish their dreams for Farato Bojang Kunda.
