Robbery suspect gets bailThursday, August 13, 2009 Justice Moses Richards of the special criminal court of Justice in Banjul on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 granted bail to one Gibril King, a co accused person charged with the criminal offence of attempted robbery. Gibril King and one Edrissa Jagne are alleged to have attempted to rob one Alfusainey Jallow at his shop in Serrekunda Super bar on the 25th March, 2007. The matter was first heard at the magistrate court where proceedings took place and later tranfered to the special criminal court in Banjul when the matter came up, Defence Counsel Edrissa Sisokho urges the court to grant the suspect bail. Justice Richards intimated that he knows the first accused Gibril King in the court, noting that the accused on several occasion be arraigned before him whilst he was a magistrate in the lower court. Justice Richards said the law is enforced not only to punish offenders but to reform or rehabilitate offenders. "You think you are getting younger, but you are getting old and you have to change with time". He told the accused. Justice Richards disclosed that he knows the accused mother in the court and he explained how the accused mother had suffered because of the accused. Justice Richards revealed that it is not granting him bail that bothers him but expressed fear that if the accused is granted bail, he will disappoint him by landing himself in trouble again. The accused however assured the court that he would not get into trouble again. Then presiding judge however granted the accused bail in the sum of D25,000 with one Gambian surety who must deposit an original ID Card before the principal Rigistrar of the High Court.
