Friday, May 04, 2012

The second edition of the annual Dynamic Sarahuleh Association for Change and Development (DSADC) football competition will come to a close on Sunday when Demba Kunda and Madina Nfanlleh battle it out for the winner’s medal.

The final showpiece event that will kick off at the Serekunda East mini-stadium at 4:30 local time will also be a meeting between the representatives of the Upper River Region and Central River Region.

Speaking to Observer Sports on Thursday evening ahead of this weekend’s final, Muhammed Papa Touray, the coordinator of the DSADC football tournament expressed his joy and happiness for a successful and trouble-free tournament.

Demba Kunda, one of the founding members of this prestigious tournament accounted for the defeat of heavyweight Kumbija with a 1-0 win while debutants Madina Nfalleh defied all the odds to secure a post-match penalty shoot-out win over pre-tournament favourites Numuyel in the other semifinal. The tournament has been in progress for a long time with many expecting it to conclude earlier but Papa Touray explained that the delay was caused by lack of fields.

Having disbursed D7,000 and D2,000 to the winners and runners -up respectively, there will be a massive improvement to the prize money in this year’s edition with the winner expecting to pocket home D12,000 and the runners-upD7,000. According to the coordinator of the tournament, the increase in theprize money was made possible through the support of sponsors in Habatus Sauda and Sky High Group whom he reserved special praise for. He added that Sky High have accounted for three-quarters of the finals expenditure.

Papa also thanked the Association and its president, Ali Gereuw for their continuous support while revealing that he [the president] has invited star Sarahuleh singer Samba Trawally for the game. He added that Trawally will also be performing in the day of the final.
