Saturday's Zonal final: Bakau coach wants all fans on board

Friday, January 09, 2009
Buba Minteh, the head coach of Bakau zonal team says support from all parties interested in the town's game will ensure a resounding victory on Saturday, when Bakau take arch rivals Banjul in the mouth-watering final of Muhammed Yahya Jammeh Zonal Cup at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

Minteh was ecstatic after Bakau reached their second final in two years - all under his guidance. But as he faces the  same side he beat last year to lift the title, he knows very well that the dream to earn a back-to-back title on Saturday would not come easy. "I would urge all Bakau fans to come and cheer us on Saturday. This is a special final. And for the fact that we beat Banjul to win the cup last year, they will be prepared for us this time around.

But with the support of the fans we can go all the way to defend our cup," he concluded. Solely sponsored by the sports-loving Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, the winner of the  tournament will go home D50,000 richer in addition to a giant trophy and 25 gold medals.

D30,000 and 25 silver medals, await the runners-up,while the third best will receive D20,000 and 25 bronze medals. Special prizes would also be awarded to the Most Discipline Team as well as the Best Player of the tournament, which would be selected by  sports journalists covering the championship.
