Savage on target as HJK secure win

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, April 26, 2012

Gambian international Demba Savage scored a 29th minute winner as his Finnish Veikkausliiga champions HJK Helsinki secured their second win from three games with a 4-1 win over FC Jaro in the 2012 season on Tuesday.

An action-packed opening half-hour saw Jaro take a tenth-minute lead when Ilya Vaganov put away a free kick from Jussi Aalto, however that would be the only bright spot for the visitors.

Mathias Lindström put away a corner from Mikko Salo to pull HJK even in the 17th, then Akseli Pelvas took advantage of loose defending to put the ball away into an open net three minutes later.

Demba Savage then left the defense in the dust when he cut in from the wing and beat Artur Kotenko for the 3-1. They added a fourth in the 50th minute, after the Jaro defense was unable to effectively clear the ball from the area, allowing Mikko Sumusalo time to easily complete the rout.

Jaro are still without a point after two games, but will have high hopes of taking something from their Sunday-afternoon home-game against winless KuPS. With the win, Helsinki went joint top of the 12-team table with six points from three games but played a game more than Inter Turku.
