‘Sellu is responsible for his defeat’

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, April 05, 2012
The APRCregional chairmanforthe Upper River Region (URR) has said that it was the actions of the former National Assembly member for Basse, Hon. Sellu Bah, that were responsible for his defeat in the just concluded Assembly election.

Alhaji Hammeh Jabou Krubally was reacting to Bah’s statements published in the Daily Observer’s Monday edition in which he claimed that ‘so-called APRC top ranks’ undermined him, thus resulting in his losing the election.

Krubally argued that Sellu Bah has no cause to complain or blame anyone as his own actions undermined his support. “In all our rallies, the electorate have been complaining that Sellu doesn’t visit people’s events. He doesn’t even attend funerals,” he said.

He also claimed that Sellu never fulfilled his promises to the people. He added: “People chose you as their messenger and you don’t fulfil your responsibilities. What do you expect the people to do? They will turn back at you.”

He further claimed that the former NAM never toured the constituency to thank the electorate as the president normally does. He continued: “We tried to rescue him but we could not because his own actions undermined him. Sellu has thrown away this seat.

He just applied at the last minute when he knew that there was no place he can depend on. So, people are just angry with him and they have voted for the man they want which is real democracy as the electorate wanted change.”

Krubally said the people of the constituency really love President Jammeh and the APRC, but they don’t want the candidate selected for them. He opined that Basse Constituency would have gone unopposed like other constituencies if Sellu was not nominated for the APRC. He finally called for continued unity among the people and urged them to avoid trying to implicate one another.
