Senegal's Foreign minister visits Gambia to 'strengthen ties'Wednesday, February 08, 2012 The Foreign Affairs minister of the Republic of Senegal Tuesday morning held talks with the president of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh at State House in Banjul to among other things, strengthen the existing ties' between the two nations. Madicke Niang, who was dispatched to Banjul as a special envoy of the president of the Republic of Senegal, Maitre Abdoulie Wade was accompanied to the Presidency by his Gambian counterpart, Foreign Affairs Minister Mamadou Tangara. In a brief interview with the State House press corps shortly after his audience with President Jammeh, Foreign Affairs Minister Niang extolled Banjul-Dakar relations, saying the two sisterly nations are one and blessed with leaders that are ''friends''. Niang also disclosed that President Wade was impressed with the solidarity and huge turnout of Gambians to grace his counterpart's fourth presidential inauguration, while hinting that Senegal at all times is praying for the wellbeing and prosperity of her sister country.
