Senegalese delegation due in Banjul ahead of Regional Sports Championship

A five-day advance Senegalese delegation is due in Banjul today ahead of this year’s edition of the Regional Sports Championship that will coincide with the July 22nd anniversary celebrations. The delegation will be led by the president of the Senegalese Workers Sports Federation (FSST), Tony Ndoye. The delegation will also include veteran Senegalese sports journalist from TFM, Laye Jaw.


Upon arrival, the delegation will on Wednesday 11th July 2012 visit the Independence Stadium, The FIFA Goal Project in Yundum, Serrekunda East, Serrekunda West, KG5 and Manjai Football Grounds respectively. The delegation will also meet with officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Officials of GRTS, the exclusive sponsor of The Gambia-Senegal Journalists Football Match as well as other stakeholders.


The objective of the mission is to assess NISA’s preparedness in hosting this year’s Sub-regional Championship scheduled to take place in The Gambia from July 22nd 2012 to July 25th 2012 for which all the fourteen regions in Senegal comprising 750 delegates including 50 journalists will be in attendance, all of whom will take part in the July 22nd Match Past at Arch 22 in Banjul. The delegation will also assess the state of accommodation, feeding, and other logistics.


The day is set aside for the Balloting of the sixteen teams, (i.e. twelve Regional football teams from Senegal and four from The Gambia namely, The Gambia Armed Forces, The Gambia Immigration Department, Gambia Civil Aviation Authority and Gampatroleum. In addition, there will be separate balloting for the eight best identified Gambian Draft Players against eight best from Senegal, four Volley Ball teams in The Gambia namely, GAF Volley Team, Jeshwang Volley Team, Qcell Volley Team & InteriorVolley Team against four best from Senegal. All Ballotings will be held the same day at Friendship Hostel Hall in Bakau at 4.00pm Prompt.


The day will be used to register all interested Gambians and non-Gambians who want to participate either in Marathon, Cycling, Bull (Petanque) or Scrabble.The Delegation will depart on Thursday 12th July 2012.


a. Events already sponsored are: - Scrabble by GAMPOST, Journalist Football by GRST and Lawn Tennisby SSHFC.

b. Events looking for Sponsorship are: - Football, Marathon, volleyball, draft, ballot (cards), cycling, bull (petanque), and table tennis.
