Serrekunda Hospital Maternity Ward boostedTuesday, July 13, 2010 The Conteh Kunda family of the late Alhaji Kebba Conteh last Thursday presented materials worth D 250,000, 00 to the Maternity Ward of the Serrekunda Hospital. The donation is in respect to the naming of the maternity ward after their late father, Alhaji Kebba Conteh, a former veteran medical practitioner at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital and once a mayor of Banjul.The materials include: Thermometers, Dettol liquid, a refrigerator, a Sanyo water dispenser, a satellite disc and receiver, television sets and a payroll management software. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Basirou Conteh, a son to the late Alhaji Kebba Conteh, described his father as a philanthropist who in the past owned a pharmacy in Banjul offering free drugs to the under-privileged. According to him, his father has done a lot for this country and that they will work tirelessly to accomplish the mission of their father. He finally assured them of their continuous support and partnership.For his part, Malang Ndong, chief executive officer of the hospital, expressed gratitude to the materials they received, describing them as very expensive and most needed. He noted that the Conteh family's adoption of the Ward is the starting point of their relationship with the hospital, which he expects will be a lasting one and thanked them for the gesture. For her part, Sophie Njie, the principal nursing officer of the hospital, described the late Alhaji Conteh as a role model to people who were working at RVTH during his time and that working under him was a privilege to her. She assured them of a proper maintenance of the materials.Other speakers included Ebou Corr, proprietor of Corr Enterprise; Pateh Saho and Alieu Badjie public relation officers of the hospital, who all expressed similar sentiments.
