Shooting tragedy in Sabi - Suspect charged with murderWednesday, September 02, 2009 A dramatic scene unfolded recently in the Upper River Region (URR), when the residents of Sabi a village after Basse witnessed a shooting incident that claimed the life of a Senegalese national, Samba Bah. Sources informed the Daily Observer's URR correspondent that the incident happened on the first day of Ramadan. Villagers in Sabi told our correspondent that the suspect, Momodou Lamin Kah, a native of Kaolack in Senegal, currently doing business in Sabi, was informed that a thief broke into his shop. The suspect Momodou Lamin Kah suddenly rushed with a single barrel gun, heading to his shop. "Momodou Lamin Kah, then fired a shot in the air, and then the thief ran out, but disappeared in the dark, and some villagers came out to help. Kah saw the alledged thief and decided to intercept him from the other side. He shot at the thief who happened to be one Samba Bah, "a Senegalese national who came to Sabi to visit a relative of his," sources told the Daily Observer. The police in the area confirmed the story. According to the region's police commissioner, DPC Ebrima Cham, the victim, Samba Bah, died instantly after the accused shot him on the neck. According to commissioner Cham, the deceased was taken to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul for post-mortem, while the accused is under custody and had since been charged with murder.
