Sillaba's sister's case adjourned againThursday, September 02, 2010 The trial of Jankey Samateh, sister to Sillaba Samateh was yesterday Wednesday 1st of September 2010 adjourned again by the Banjul Magistrates Court presided over by Acting Principal Magistrate Hillary Abeke. Jankey Samateh was earlier on charged with aiding a prisoner (Sillaba Samateh) to escape under lawful custody, by taking him on bail from the NIA and facilitating his escape to Holland, contrary to Section 109 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code Cap 10 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia. When the matter was called, the presiding Magistrate said he was surprised that the case file was called while the accused and the state counsel were not in court. However, the defence counsel for the accused person, Lamin S Camara reminded the court that for the past two adjournment dates, both the state counsel and the accused were not present in court. He pointed out that the accused is languising at the State Central Prison in Mile 2, which is against her constitutional right and added that they need fair hearing and speedy trial. At this juncture, the presiding magistrate said since the state counsel is not represented in court and the accused is not in court, he is adjourning the case to the 8th of September 2010 for continuation. He then ordered that the hearing notice be issued to all the parties. Author: by Ebrima M Kanuteh | Media Actions See Also |
