The Gambia's international reggae dancehall star - Singhateh aka Freaky Joe - is currently warming up for a mega concert to be held in London as part of this year's celebration marking the 'Africa Music Awards'.

The annual event showcases African artists from different countries in Africa, Europe and the Americas, and this is the first time a Gambian artist will be included in the lineup. This year's African Music Award, slated for this Saturday 17th at the Troxy 490 Commercial RD, London, is dedicated to the late American pop star, Mickeal Jackson. Celebrities to attend the award include the Senegalese international footballer, El Hadj Joof  as well as Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast.

According to our sources, through the help of Daddy Elie of UK Gambians and Waka Jagne, a  Senegambian music promoter based in the UK, Singateh was included to represent the country. According to Singateh himself, he will be performing alongside the Senegalese king of Mbalax, Youssou Ndure; renowned American rapper, Eve; Two-face of Nigeria; Bat Man Samini of Ghana; and a host of other artists.  "I will make sure I do all I can to impress the organisers, my colleagues and my fans too. I will also try and meet various African Music Awards organisers to see how best we can forge relationships for future awards ," he said.

At the awards ceremony, Singateh will be playing his biggest hits like 'Livin It'  , which stormed the entire country since the release of his 14-track CD album entitled 'Rejoice'.   "I chose thse tracks to showcase the culture of my country, as these tracks consist of different traditional instruments, which will create more impact. Besides, since all the artists from Africa will be playing their country music, I also chose to play music from my country," he added. Singateh finally called on Gambians in the UK to come out in their numbers and support a worthy cause adding that their support means a lot in the drive to move the country's music industry to another level.
