Six wards complete CDDP sensitisation in CRR

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, May 05, 2009
A two-day sensitisation on Community Driven Development  Project (CDDP) activities, was recently concluded in six wards under the Janjanbureh Local Government Area.

Organised by the  CDDP in collaboration with Department of Community Development, the ceremony also witnessed the formation of ward development committees. Kajally Kanyi, the community development facilitator, said the aim of the CDDP is to complement the efforts of the local government area councils in particular and the community driven development projects in general.

He noted that the project has three main components: community driven development, capacity development at the local level, as well as general coordination and monitoring & evaluation at national level. He pointed out that the project will enhance the development of innovative approaches to include local community and local government structures at village and ward levels, in transparent and accountable planning and implementation of development projects.

Baba Jammeh, community development assistant said the project development objective is that rural communities, in partnership with local government authorities, to implement and maintain their priority social and economic investments. He said that the project aimed at building an existing system for village and ward planning that can be applied country wide under the guidance of the empowered local government area councils, as well as ward and village development committees.
