Sololo Nawettan commences

Africa » Gambia
Friday, August 07, 2009
Last weekend, the people of Upper Fuladu started their annual nawettan at Sololo.

There are eight teams taking part in the tournament, which is sponsored by the Upper Fuladu Sports Committee. Addressing the gathering before the kick-off, the commanding office of the Police Intervention Unit in the area, ASP Mbangic Saine, advised both players and supporters to maintain peace and order during the course of the tournament. He reminded that in every game, there must be a winner and a loser.

The regional sports chairman, Nyamo Touray, called on the footballers to take the game seriously. He urged them to respect the roues governing the tournament. Dobong Kunda and Draman opened the tournament. Draman started the game brightly and took the lead in the 30th minute, through a goal from their striker, Lamin Ceesay.

The second half saw an improved Dobong Kunda side equalising in the 55th minute, through Ebrima Dibba.  The match ended in a draw.
