Spanish NGO donates to JNSFriday, February 26, 2010 Maka Maru, a Spanish non governmental organisation (NGO) on Wednesday, donated learning materials, among other items to Jurunku Nursery School (JNS) at a presentation ceremony held at the school in Niumi Jurunku. The donated items included pencils, books, chalks, furniture, 25 plastic chairs, 20 bags of rice and D36, 750 for six months’ salary advancement for the five teachers at the nursery school. The organisation has been supporting the school for the past years, as part of its efforts to uplift the school and as in complement to the efforts of government in ensuring quality, affordable and accessible education for every Gambian child. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Kebba Sonko, deputy headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to Maka Maru for its support to the education sector. According to him, the NGO has been supporting the school for the past years and noted that the gesture will go a long way in solving some of the problems that they are facing at the school. He further commended the donors for rehabilitating their classroom. For his part, Alhagie Joof, regional cluster monitor of the area, thanked Maka Maru for the gesture. He noted that any support to the education of school children is a step in the right direction. He therefore urged the school administration to take good care of the donated materials. For her part, Konse Gacia Camps, president of Maka Maru, commended the school administration for the development of the school, which according to her, demonstrates their commitment and the high sense of responsibility to ensuring quality education to the children. She disclosed that the organisation has recently spent D30, 000 for the rehabilitation of theroof of the classroom. According to her, Maka Maru is always ready to support in the development blue print agenda of the country and assured them of her organization’s full support.
