The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh continues to receive more congratulatory messages on the occasion of The Gambia's 45th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

The latest messages came from Honourable Elizabeth FY Renner, the speaker of the National Assembly and Cherno Bara Touray, a former Gambian ambassador to Guinea Bissau.

The messages read:
As we commemorate forty-five (45) years of political sovereignty, Honourable members from both sides of parliament join me as Honourable speaker of the National Assembly, to convey our sincere best wishes and prayers to Your Excellency, the government and people of The Gambia, for the happy and peaceful celebration of this auspicious occasion under your exemplary leadership.

We in parliament continue to take cue from your principle of participatory leadership as evidenced by Your Excellency's resolve to uphold and respect the doctrine of separation of powers and shared governance, a practical example of which is your unparallel record in empowering women into decision-making positions which were hitherto reserved for men.

Mr. President, as you stir the affairs of our state towards Vision 2020, with all the national and global challenges and limitations of our times, please be assured once again of the honourable members unflinching support and collective resolve to complement and reinforce your government's policy programmes and strategies aimed at, among others, turning The Gambia from being a net importer to a net exporter of food.

In conclusion, we wish you many more returns of this joyous anniversary celebrations and thank you once again for your trust in, and goodwill towards the National Assembly.
