Sports for Health in full gear

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, June 20, 2012

The Sports for Health which is scheduled for this weekend is in full gear as Permanent Secretary Mambanyick Njie and members of the Organising Committee briefed the press on the preparations and structure of the programme at a press conference held at the Ministry for Youth and Sports in Quadrangle Banjul.

Speaking at the briefing, PS Njie explained that the programme is meant for the three arms of government namely the Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and the Civil Service. He said that they thought it wise to have a sports for health programme which would bring familiarity, create a better communicating environment, and also create time especially for the busy workers.

He also explained that it is arranged in a manner wherein the permanent secretaries and the deputy permanent secretaries would join the executive angle while the rest would be in the Civil Service adding that the sports for health activity would serve as a means to create a government team that would have the opportunity to play against the private sector.

Speaking earlier, Pa Sumareh Fye, the deputy director for sports told the gathering that progress and preparation has been made to ensure a fruitful activity. He revealed that the slated date for the occasion is from the 22nd to the 24th of June at the Arch 22nd July Square in Banjul to the July the 22nd Square in central Banjul. He said the activity is also meant to use sports as a tool to promote fitness, well being and good health as well as encourage team, and team building.
