Monday, September 06, 2010
The minister of Youth and Sports, Sheriff ML Gomez has hailed the heroic performance of the country's senior national football team [Scorpions] against Namibia on Saturday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, in the Orange CAF African Cup of Nations 2012 qualifier.

The Scorpions defeated the Warriors of Namibia by 3-1, with first-half goals from Major Soccer League star Sainey Nyassi, Bronby's Ousman Jallow and Momodou Ceesay. The Namibians managed a consolation goal during stoppage time. The Sports minister, who described Saturday's match as a good one, said: "I think this is a massive result on which they [Scorpions] should be able to build their confidence and also to be able to rally all the people together that, this is a team that you must continue to support. I am very optimistic and I think there is hunger in the team; and I think there is passion in the team." He also expressed optimism on The Gambia’s ability to qualify for Africa’s biggest football showpiece coming up again in 2012.
