SSHFC opens Operation Algeria with D800,000

Wednesday, January 21, 2009
Barely hours after the secretary of state for Youth and Sports launched the marketing committee for the Operation Algeria campaign at the President Jammeh Joint Officers' Mess in Kotu yesterday, the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation boosted the team's confidence after making the presentation of a cheque for D800: 00 (eight hundred thousand dalasis) as its contribution towards the facilitation of the Gambia Under 17 team's participation in the event.

Presenting the cheque to Secretary of State Sheriff Gomez for onward delivery to the Gambia Football Association vice president, Major-General Langtombong Tamba, the deputy managing director of the welfare institution, Mr Edward Graham, said his company sees the donation as an investment in young Gambian talents who are about to represent the nation on the international arena.

According to Mr Graham, there is more happiness in giving than receiving and he called on all and sundry to come and support the team as is always done by the Gambian leader, Professor Dr Alhaji Yahya Jammeh.

Receiving the cheque, SoS Gomez thanked Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation for the gesture, hinting "we hope that more help will follow soon". The GFA No. 2, Major-General Langtombong Tamba, revealed that the committee will open a special account with GTBank, the account number of which will be communicated to the general public for more donations.
