SSSS holds graduation ceremonyWednesday, July 08, 2009 Scanaid Senior Secondary School (SSSS) on Saturday 4th July 2009 held its 3rd graduation and 5th prize giving ceremony at the school premises in Brufut. In his opening remarks, Mr Andrew Sylva the board of director expressed sincere appreciation over the untiring efforts of Scanaid International of Norway who are the main benefactors of the school. Andrew Sylva emphasised on the quality that the granduants should nurture and as well urged them not to limit themselves to self discipline, patience, respect for elders, authority and total commitment in what ever good they engage in. He advised the graduants to always uphold the good values they acquired in the school and make everyday of life an opportunity to pursue knowledge in order to become worthy members of the society. Also to the ongoing current students to maintain and get prepared to work extremely hard as they prepared to resolute, redress the setbacks they experienced and still encounter. Mariama Baldeh, the principal of the school, started with a minute silent prayer in honour of the late Henry Peters, an educationist, philanthropists who was the founding members of Scanaid Organisation in the Gambia for the realisation of the Norwegian establishment in Brufut. In her speech, she expressed extreme satisfaction that the school has gained recognition and prominence beyond the limit of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) and Western Division (WD). Mrs Baldeh extend gratitude to The Gambia Government and PEGEP fund educating the girl child and improving significantly in the enrolment and retention of girls compared to previous years. "Am convinced that in the near future Scanaid senior secondary school shall be a girls school," she noted. According to her, in the area of sports, the school is making significant progress in which eight (8) students qualified for various events at the Inter-Secondary School Sport final. With the avail of indoor and outdoor equipment from the Norwegian friend, she strongly believed that the students will perform in the very well in every competition they participate. In the area of development, she stated the school, which will be 5 yeas in October, has achieved lots of developmental process which older school will not be able to achieve in ten (10) years. This includes a diversity agricultural garden, school canteen, and many more.
