At least 119 students were on Saturday graduated at St Peter’s Technical Senior Secondary School in Lamin. The event held on the theme “The importance of science in our modern development” was St. Peter’s 32nd graduation ceremony.

The event attracted scores of dignitaries including the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Harry Sambou; the chief executive officer of the QCELL GSM Company, Muhammed Jah, parents and relatives of the graduating students.

Addressing the outgoing students, the principal of the school, Rev Fr. Bruno Tupan harped on the progress made by the school. He disclosed that in May – June 2011 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, the school registered 123 candidates, out of which 11 got nine credits, whilst three students got aggregate 6 in the junior category. He described the results as the best so far in the school.

He described St. Peter’s as a school that is not only known for learning only, but also for extra curricular activities. To this end, he disclosed that the school won the Presidential Tree Planting Competition, whilst its female basketball team won the female basketball competition this year.

Speaking earlier, the vice principal of the school, Francis Gomez thanked the Board of Governors, the management and students of St. Peter’s for making the occasion possible. He also thanked the parents for gracing the ceremony.

Also addressing the students, QCELL’s Muhammed Jah, who was the guest speaker of the occasion, described the theme of the event as very apt given the trend the world is taking in moving from analogue to a digital world.

This, he added, has made everything to advance to faster results and easy operation due to the modernisation of science in the world. He thanked the students for their hard work, while also applauding the teachers and parents for their inspiration. 

The programme was marked by presentation of prizes to deserving students. Prizes were also awarded to the most hardworking teachers in the school. The head girl of the school, Fatou Nyang delivered the vote of thanks.
