Two philanthropists; namely, Anna Haug and Chris Staube in parnertship with their colleagues in Stuttgart, Germany recently provided 12 taps for St. Therese’s Upper Basic School (UBS) in the Kanifing Municipality.

Speaking on the occasion, Zono Jammeh, the principal of the school, expressed delight at the gesture, saying that it would help ease the water shortage in the school. Madam Jammeh said the provision of the 12 new taps will boost the school’s efforts in the provision of clean drinking water.

She revealed that the school has an enrolment of almost 3000 students and thatwhat they need now is a water tank that will conserve water so that when the children come to school during the day they will have pure water to drink. Samuel Kay Jarju, the vice principal of the school, reiterated the principal’s remarks and thanked the donors for their efforts.

For his part, Abdoulie Bah, the coordinator of the ‘Professional Education The Gambia’, a local NGO, said his organisation sponsors children in primary, nursery and tertiary institutions. He assured that the donors will continue to support the school.
