Stakeholders brainstorm on faith and climate change

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Ahead of an international conference on the role of faith in tackling issues of climate change, which is slated for the 28 to the 29th of October, Faith Regen Foundation, an organisation that is pioneering the London conference is sampling the opinion of people across the world with regard to faith and climate change.

The foundation is conducting this opinion sampling through organising focus group discussions on faith and climate change in some 12 countries across the world including The Gambia. In respect of this, stakeholders in The Gambia, drawn from policy makers; scholars; religious organisations; environmentalists and journalists, converged at the premises of the National Nutrition Agency in a focus group discussion to brainstorm on the role of faith in tackling climate change and its related issues. Abbey Sarr, a volunteer with the Faith Regen Foundation, coordinated the focus group discussion.

During the session, members of the focus group shared ideas as to whether faith is a contributor or solution to the global climate change. The participants at the end of the session compiled key ideas that were gathered during the discussions into a report which will be presented before delegates at the London conference by Faith Regen Foundation. Faith Regen Foundation is initiating the conference on faith and climate change, with the aim of raising awareness and understanding of the potential of faith communities to play a part in tackling this global challenge.
