The National Assembly of The Gambia is set to open for its third legislative year, 2009, according to a press release from the Assembly.

The release states that in fulfillment of a constitutional requirement, the state opening, which will be held on Friday 27th March 2009, at 5pm, will be presided over by the president of the Republic, GMRG and commander-in-chief of The Gambia Armed Forces, His Excellency Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh. The session will be held at the National Assembly Chambers.

Described as one of the biggest events on the National Assembly calendar, the occasion, according to the release, is expected to provide the chief executive of the Gambian constitution the opportunity to outline his government's development plans for the year and the achievements of his administration.

The occasion also formally opens the way for bills and motions to be presented to the National Assembly for enactment, and treaties and agreement for ratification.
