Wednesday, June 06, 2012

The director of Public Prosecution (DPP) S.H Barkun, Tuesday June 5th, 2012 informed the High Court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Abdulahi Mikailu that the State intends to call two more witnesses to close its case in the trial involving two alleged assailants of Farid Bensouda, Coco Ocean boss.

DPP Barkun revealed that the witnesses are a medical officer and a police officer who took part in the investigation of the said matter. The DPP further revealed that the police officer, Abdoulie Sowe intend to tender the teeth of the complainant Bensouda, which was allegedly removed by the alleged assailants and some photographs of Bensouda whilst he was in the hospital in The Gambia, shortly before he was flown abroad for further medical treatment. The DPP lamented that the said witnesses were indisposed yesterday, noting that the police officer Abdoulie Sowe is bereaved.

Meanwhile, the presiding Judge Justice Abdulahi Mikailu adjourned the case to today for hearing. The accused persons Mohammed Carew and Modou Jaw are standing trial on a four count charge of conspiracy to commit felony, conspiracy to murder, robbery with violence and attempted murder contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.
