Steve Biko set for Bakau derby clash

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Steve Biko and Bakau United fans are anticipating a mouth-watering derby showdown in the Gambia Premier League championship today [Wednesday] as the two Bakau neighbours-cum-bitter rivals rub shoulders against each other in their rescheduled Week Eight fixture at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.

Both sides will enter the clash on the back of a shaky display in their previous games – Steve Biko only managing a goalless draw against Interior FC in the Week Seven fixture, while Bakau United lost 0-1 to Real de Banjul. Biko, who currently occupy fourth position in the standing and trailing leaders Gamtel by five points, will be without their influential striker Assan Jatta who is currently serving a three-match ban.

Elsewhere Wednesday, Gambia Armed Forces will battle against Bonu’s Johnson’s Ports Authority side in another rescheduled fixture at the Independence Stadium. Currently trailing leaders Gamtel by only a lone goal difference, the mid-week fixture is a perfect chance for Bonu Johnson’s side to re-claim the top if they garner the desired result against the Soldiers who will enter the clash on the back of a resounding 2-0 win over Samger in last weekend.
