Stiff bail conditions for businessmanTuesday, September 08, 2009 Kayode Olajubutu, principal magistrate of the Bundung Magistrates Court, on Monday, imposed stiff bail conditions on one Saikou Gibba, a businessman residing in Tallinding Kunjang and who has been charged with perjury and giving false information. Lawyer Assan Martin, counsel for the accused, had applied for his client to be given bail, noting that his client - an asthma patient, is seriously sick and needs urgent medical attention. Representing the director of public prosecution, Richard Chenge, State Counsel SH Barkum raised no objections but quickly urged the court to impose stiff bail conditions in order to prevent the accused from jumping bail. He noted that the accused was at one time called as a prosecution witness from his base in Switzerland. Magistrate Olajubutu then granted the accused bail in the sum of D400,000 with 2 sureties, one of whom must have a landed property in the Greater Banjul Area.
