Student needs urgent help

Friday, July 08, 2011
A 14-year-old student of Kombo Kerewan Upper  Basic School is in dire need of support to complete his education.

Lamin Jawara, who just sat to the Grade 9 examination lost both parents and his education now hangs in a balance, as he doesn’t have anyone to support him. Lamin’s basic education was completed thanks to the generous assistance and understanding of the Kombo Kerewan headmaster and his team.

Lamin explained that he lost his father when they were living in the Republic of Benin, which led to his relocation to The Gambia with his mother and younger brothers. According to him, his mother also passed away last year after a brief illness, hence he was left in custody of his half-brother called Karafa Jawara, who also could not support his education as expected due to other family expenses.

He revealed that the headmaster of Kombo Kerewan UBS and his team supported him from Grade 7 to Grade 9. “I have done the Grade 9 examination and I chose St Peter’s Senior Secondary School, but the funding for senior school education is my biggest nightmare now, because I have no one to turn to for help,” Lamin Jawara explained to this reporter.

His comments were reiterated by his half-brother, Karafa Jawara, who described him as a brilliant, committed and hard working student.  He seized the opportunity to make a passionate appeal to the general public, especially the government, the private sector and philanthropists to assist him so that he can complete his education.

Anyone willing to help can dial the following numbers: 9847780, 79847780 or 6747780.
