Surety to forfeit the bail

africa » gambia » kanifing
Thursday, March 26, 2009
One Alagie Tabally, surety for one Maimuna Bah, was on Wednesday, ordered by Acting Principal Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of Kanifing Magistrate Court to pay the sum of D5000 to the State.

In her ruling, Magistrate Sainabou Wadda- Ceesay told the court that since the surety could not trace the accused, who is believed to have fled from the jurisdiction of the court, he must forfeit the bail. Maimuna Bah was facing two charges of conspiracy to commit felony and forgery of judicial documents, to which she had pleaded not guilty. She had been given bail in the sum of D5000, with Alagie Tabally as her surety.
