Sutukoba to get a fire station

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, September 10, 2009
The minister of Interior, Ousman Sonko, has revealed that more than half of the country, has now adequate fire and rescue cover.

Sonko made these revelations on Tuesday at the National Assembly during a question and answer session in the third meeting of the National Assembly  in the 2009 legislative year. Responding to a question posed by the National Assembly member for Kantora, Honourable Saikou Suso, as whether there is any plan to build a sub fire station in Fatato to serve the area, Minister Sonko revealed that submissions have been made to the Gambia Agency for the Management of Public Works (Gamworks) for the  purpose of  building  Fire and Rescue station in Sutukoba.

The Interior minister told deputies that the decentralisation and expansion of Fire and Rescue services in the country is very advanced. "However, for a fire and rescue station to be built, certain basic infrastructure must be in place such as pipe-borne water or hydrants, reliable and publicly accessible communications such as telephones," he indicated.
