Gambian athlete Suwaibou Sanneh, currently training at the High Performance Training Center in Jamaica has set another National record for The Gambia in the men's 100m meters all comers’ track in Jamaica at the weekend when he was ranked 2nd overall with a time of 10.22secs.

With the timing, the Lower River Region-born sprinter has also broken his own National record of 10.25secs which he set last year in Italy which qualifies him to the London Olympic Games. Suwaibou is guaranteed of taking part at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, after securing his qualification for next year’s quadrennial Games.

Revealing Suwaibou’s qualification to this summer’s Games at the time, Beatrice Allen an IOC member andfirst vice president of the Gambia National Olympic Committee said they were very excited with the development while further revealing in the same interview that a National Championship (in the country) will be held to serve as a method of selecting the two wild card places which will be one male and one female.

She also revealed that 30-year-old British-born Gambian athlete Nusrat Ceesay who has since switched allegiance to the West African country but suffered a food poisoning during the Maputo Games will also be invited for the National Championship.

Sanneh who specialises in the 100 meters also reached the semi-final at the 2008 World Junior Championships and competed at the 2008 Olympic Games without progressing to the second round. He finished fifth in his heat with a time of 10.52 seconds.
