SYA cleans Bundung Police Station, others

Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, March 14, 2012

The Sensitive Youths Association (SYA),based in Bundung, over the weekend embarked on a massive cleaning exercise at the Bundung Police Station and Bundung Garage. Hundreds of volunteers took part in the exercise, which is part of the association’s 2012 plan of action.

Speaking after the exercise, ASP Dodou Jammeh, the station officer at Bundung Police Station commended the young people for the initiative. He noted that this will go a long way in complementing the efforts of President Jammeh in his ‘Operation Clean the Nation’ initiative,as well as help to reduce malaria in the community.

ASP Jammeh described the intervention as timely, saying that it will also strengthen the existing relationship between the police and the community. He urged the youth to always engage in something meaningful and to work for the development of the country. He finally called on others to emulate SYA.

For his part, the chairman of SYA, Modou Lamin Sanyang, thanked the members of the Association for the good work. He said that the activity was geared towards cleaning the environment, as there cannot be any sustainable development without a clean environment. “No nation can achieve its primary objectives without active participation in the health sector, so we as a youth association we are also contributing our quota towards the attainment of the MDGs and the PAGE,” he remarked.

Isatou Conteh, a member of the association, seized the opportunity to appeal to the National Environment Agency (NEA) to help them with cleaning materials. Sulayman Sambou and Kebba Jeffang, the public relations officer and secretary general of the association respectively, both expressed similar sentiments.
