Table Tennis Association benefits from International Federation

Monday, July 16, 2012

The Gambia Table Tennis Association recently benefited from the International Table Tennis Federation after the ITTF gave them 10 tables and 100 surrounds - the materials put around the table to stop the ball from falling.

The arrival of the materials followed up an interview with the president of the Gambia Federation, Peter Prom who disclosed to Observer Sports inits June 7th edition that they are expecting the materials from the ITTF.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with this paper on Friday, Peter Prom said the donated items that recently arrived will go a long way in helping the association’s efforts in trying to decentralise the sport in the country.

He stressed that the items will be distributed to schools across the country while also hoping to give one table to the University of The Gambia. But he nonetheless hastened to add that they will first have to conduct an inspection tour at the UTG before handing it over.

Peter Prom also thanked the Gambia National Olympic Committee for providing the national sports association an annual subvention, which he said was used to clear the goods from the ports. He also thanked Gam-Shipping for knocking off 50% from the costs.

The secretary general of the GNOC who further revealed that his association will take part in the upcoming July 22nd Sports Championship added that they are also looking forward to taking part in this year’s Zone II Table Tennis Championship to be held in Chez, Senegal in August. Six countries have already confirmed their participation to the event including the host, Senegal, Mali, Cape Verde, Guinea Conakry, Mauritania and The Gambia.

The first captain of the Gambia’s first ever national U-23 football team also urged local federations to be paying their annual subventions with their International Federations which according to him played a huge role in his association receiving support from the ITTF.
