Taiwan, Gambia cultural exchange programme kicks-offThursday, July 29, 2010 The 2010 Youth Ambassador Cultural Programme kicked-off Tuesday at the Baobab Holiday Resort in Bijilo. Six students and one professor from the National Pin-tung University of Technology in the Republic of China on Taiwan and some Gambian youths are taking part in the 10-day cultural exchange programme. In his opening remarks , Richard Shih, the Taiwanese ambassador to The Gambia, described Taiwan and The Gambia as two brothers and very closely 'compatible' in their relationship. He echoed President Jammeh's statements that Taiwan and The Gambia are not only partners but also brothers with similar goals.The organisation of the 2010 Youth Ambassador Cultural Programme, he explained, was borne out of the cordial relationship between the two countries, adding that the programme will be essential in promoting the culture of the two sides, which will also lead to the deepening of their existing relationship. Dr Ming Chang Wu, the leader of the Taiwanese delegation expressed appreciation for the opportunity the two countries accorded them to take part in the cultural exchange activities. He said they expect to learn about Gambian culture from Gambian youths and vice versa.Ousman Boye Bojang, the president of the University of The Gambia Student Union and head of the Gambian team at the programme, said the organisation of the programme is a true manifestation of the cordial relations existing between Taipei and Banjul.
