Tallinding Kunjang businessman charged with perjury

Africa » Gambia
Friday, July 24, 2009
Saikou  Gibba,  a businessman residing in Tallinding Kunjang, was recently arraigned before the Principal Magistrate Olajubutu  Kayode of the Bundung Magistrates Court, on charges of giving false information to a public officer and commiting perjury contrary to section 114 (A) and 95(1)  of the Criminal Code.

According to the particulars of the offence, on July 30, 2008, at  the National Intelligence  Agency Headquarters in  Banjul, Saikou Gibba gave one Yankuba Badjie (a public officer) information to the effect that he saw one Demba Sowe removing a huge  amount of money which belonged to one Christopher Badjie.

It was also indicated that on June 2, 2009, at the Bundung Magistrates Court, Saikou  Gibba gave false  testimony on a matter of the State versus two NIA officers (Demba Sowe and  Baboucarr Jallow). When the charge sheet was read to him, he  pleaded not guilty.

The case continues on Monday July 27.
