Tetrax Company embarks on dumpsite clearingMonday, January 11, 2010 Tetrax, a Senegalese road construction company operating in The Gambia is currently providing voluntary services to the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) by helping to clear up the illegal dumping sites in the municipality. This initiative by the Senegalese Company is meant to eliminate the illegal dumping sites that have been created by unscrupulous individuals. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer Saturday at the KMC offices in Kanifing, Abdoulie M.B Sanyang, the chief executive officer (CEO) of KMC, said the Senegalese company (Tetrax) had earlier on cleared the illegal dumpsites at the Kanifing Layout and are presently clearing the illegal dumpsites along the NYSS Highway in Bakau, behind the Bakau Primary School and opposite the main gate of the Independence Stadium. He revealed that KMC spends more than D150, 000 to clear illegal dumping sites, and expressed his profound gratitude to Tetrax for rendering such remarkable service that greatly serves the interest and wellbeing of the people, and at no cost. While emphasising that the mayor of KMC is very much concerned over the issue of illegal dumping in the municipality, he implored residents in the municipality to change their attitude towards the environment and to adhere to the anti-littering laws, warning that any one caught violating the anti-littering laws will be taken to court. Sanyang explained that the management of illegal dumpsites is something that requires a lot of resources, and stressed that the council has limited resources, which makes it incumbent upon every one to manage his or her waste. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the council in addressing the issue of illegal dumping within the municipality. The CEO opined that the step taken by Tetrax Company will go a long way in further strengthening relations between The Gambia and Senegal. He finally thanked Tetrax Company for the noble initiative, and urged other companies to emulate them. For his part, Buba Sillah, field inspector at KMC said that waste management needs concerted efforts as the council cannot do it alone. He commended Tetrax Company for responding positively to the request of the municipality. Author: by Alieu Ceesay | Media Actions See Also |
