The Big Smile Project donates to Essau SSS

Africa » Gambia
Tuesday, January 24, 2012
The Big Smile Gambia Project, a UK-based registered charity organisation, recently donated educational materials including science textbooks to Essau Senior Secondary School, at a presentation ceremony held in Barra Village, Lower Nuimi District, North Bank Region. The donation was made possible through a community project back in the UK, and through one Saidou Saine, a Gambian based in the UK, who is also a native of Barra Village.

In an interview with Daily Observer, shortly after presenting the books, Saidou Saine explained that the UK-based charity over the past years has been sending consignments of materials comprising of medicals items, clothes, learning materials and other valuables items, in order to compliment government’s efforts in national development.

He used the opportunity to renew the organisation’s commitment to empower local communities by all means. Saine also appealed to the authorities to assist them in early clearance of their materials. For his part, Tony Redhead, officer in-charge of Shipping and Fundraising of the organisation, also expressed similar sentiments.

Receiving the books, Ebrima K Suso, the vice principal of Essau Senior Secondary School, hailed the efforts of the local charity for a job well done, saying that the books will be of immense benefit to the students of the school. He also hailed the efforts of Saidou Saine, a Gambian based in the UK and his in-laws for their philanthropic move.
