The cultural gala night

africa » gambia
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
The true spirit of arts and culture in The Gambia and beyond was set in motion. This rare occasion was held last Friday 27th  March, 2009 at a  cultural gala night, held in Jama Hall, Kairaba Beach Hotel.

The cultural night was organised by Education through Culture and Communication Organisation (ECCO), in collaboration with the Gambia Hotel Association, the Department of State for Tourism and Culture, the University of the Gambia and the Norwegian College of Dance, and sponsored by different banks, GSM operators and other stakeholders interested in the  promotion and development of Tourism in the Gambia.

The exhibition of arts and cultures of the two countries, concided with the graduation of over 30 students from Norway and the occasion was marked by eating, drinking and merry making. The students received trainings at the ECCO Cultural Camp in Brefet,Western  Region of the Gambia. Interludes of entertainment came through the renowned Sembeh International Cultural Group and the graduating Norwegian students. The cultural night chaired by peter Gomez, proprietor and manager of West Coast radio, was described by many as another true manifestation of the uniqueness of the Gambian arts and culture and the cordial relationship existing between the two countries.

The event brought together distinguished personalities from both government, private sector and cross section of the communities such as Babou Sarr, country director of ECCO; Professor Andreas Steigen, former Vice Chancellor of the UTG, among others.
