Editor,

I am a Gambian student studying in Indonesia on scholarship. There is a small respected Gambian community here in Indonesia most of whose members are doing business, with some of them having been here for more than ten years now. The Gambia is highly respected in this part of the world but currently that respect is fading day by day.

Last week, I was told that there were some Africans - non-Gambians bearing Gambian passports, notably Nigerians, who mostly involved in drug peddling, as well as Guineans and Senegalese.

Just in the middle of the year; I cannot actually remember the month, a man was caught with drugs -  a Nigerian man in possession of Gambian passport and his name was broadcast in all major TV stations and later it emerged that he was not Gambian.

I wish to forward this message to the authority concerned (immigration). It appears some immigration officials are involved in trading our passport to non-Gambians, especially Nigerians, thereby painting little and nice Gambia black.

Very soon our country too will be black listed. This has left me really unsettled as a Gambian, and I will be really happy if this matter is brought to the notice of the government of the Gambia.

My doors are fully opened to you for any other information you may need.
