Prophethood
Once Abu Taalib saw Hazrat Muhammed (Sallallaahu-Allayhi.Wasallam) and Hazrat Ali performing salaat, he asked what religion was that. They replied, "This is the religion of Allah, his angels, prophets and our father Ibrahim".

Muhammed went on to tell him that Allah has sent me as a Prophet to mankind. You are the first deserving (rightful) to whom I should call to this religion and you are the most rightful who should accept my message and assist me" said Hazrat Muhammed (Sallallaahu-Allayhi.Wasallam) Abu Taalib replied that he would not leave the religion of his forefathers, but would not allow anybody to harm Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) as long as he was alive. He than asked his, son, Hazrat Ali what religion he was following Hazrat Ali said:' I have believed in Allah and his prophets and have regarded His message as truthfully except good, so remain with him."

He than asked his son, Hazrat Ali what religion he was following. Hazrat Ali said: I have believed in Allah and his Prophets and have regarded his message as truthful". Abu Taalib replied."He will not called you to anything expect good, so remain with him".Open call (3rd year after Nabuwwat)"Expound (explain) open what you are commanded." (Qur'aan: 14:94) "And warn your close family members" (Qur'an: 26:214).

First the message of Islam was spread secretly. Now Allah ordered Hazrat Muhammed to preach the message of Islam openly. Therefore, Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) climbed on mount Safaa and shouted to the people of Makkah. They all come running to hear what Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) had to say. He asked them if they regarded him as truthful! Yes" they replied! Will you believe me if I tell you that there is an army behind me about to attack you?" asked Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) yes", you are Amen," they said. Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) then said Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) then said" similarly there is a life to come behind us (after death) we will be raised again and will have to answer for our actions in this world."

"And if they turn away (from Islam, you (Muhammed's) duty is to convey the message," (Qur'an; 3:20)Everybody by now hard of Islam and preaching was done openly.  People coming to Makkah for Hajj were told about Islam. "Say; 'Laa'ilaaha Illallaah' and be successful. Do not worship idols and do not kill you fellow men, neither gamble nor rob. Do not bury your new-born daughter alive." Every year a fair was held at a place called Ukaaz. People gathered here to compete with one another, buy and sell goods and have competitions in the recital of poetry. Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) also went to these fairs to make Tableegh.

The people of Makkah used to warm the outsiders not to listen to the talks of Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH). Because the warnings dive the Tableegh of Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH), the talks of Islam and the prophet spread throughout Saudi Arabia.

Threats
"And we have raised in every nation a message, (proclaiming): serve Allah and leave the false good." (Qur'an, 16: 36)Islam shortly started to spread amongst the people of Makkah. The Kaffirs feared that the Muslims would increase and they would soon be out numbered.Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) kept on preaching the oneness of Allah, the stupidity of idol-worship and the evil ways of the people.A group of people went to Abu Taalib requesting him to stop his nephew from preaching Islam. He sent them away with kind words. After sometimes they come back to him complaining about Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) claiming that he was corrupting the youth.

Abu Taalib called Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) and told him about the Kaffir's visit and that he had grown old and could not carry such a heavy burden on his head. Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) thought that his uncle was going to hand him over to the Kufaar, tears come to Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) eyes and he said: ("O Muhammed), ask you (the Kaffaar no reward of this (message)." (Quran; 25:57); an seeing that Abu Taalib was not prepared to stop his nephew from preaching Islam, the Kuffaar decided to use another trick.

They took a young, strong and handsome youth, Umara-bin-Walid to Abu Taalib. They requested Abu Taalib to adopt this boy and give them Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) in exchange so that they could kill him. Abu Taalib said: "you are giving me your son to feed and make big and I must give you my son so that you can kill him? By Allah, I swear this can never be. Do as you please".This plan, having back-fired they went away thinking of something else.

This time they called on Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) and told him that if he wanted goods they would give him so much that he would become the richest man in Makkah; if he wanted honour they would make him their king; and if he was sick in mind they were prepared to pay for his treatment. To this Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) replied… that he did not come to gather weather or kingship, but that Allah had send him as a prophet, revealed a book (The Qur’an) to him and sent him as a warmer and bringer of good news. For all this Hazrat Muhammed (PBUH) never took revenge or said any evil words to his persecutors.
