Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Lamin Nyassi, a police corporal attached to the Bakoteh Police Station, yesterday, told the Bundung Magistrate court Presided over by Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara that he was told together with his colleagues on duty on the 19th of September, 2008 that if they failed to let out an accused escapee, they would be dealt with.

Testifying in the ongoing criminal case involving one Karamba Gassama, who was alleged to have escaped from lawful custody in Bakoteh Police Station on September 19 2008, Corporal Nyassi said, when they were given the ultimatum to show up Kassama or they are dealt with, they reported the matter to all the police stations within the Greater Banjul Area and after two weeks, they were alerted by the Police in Bakau that the accused had been arrested and was in their hands in Bakau.

"I went there together with my boss and we identified the accused. He was subsequently charged for the offense of escaping from lawful custody," he told the court. At that juncture, the case was adjourned to 17th February, 2009 and Inspector Mballow represented the IGP.
